fischer-tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons using iron-mordenite catalysts
Authors
abstract
fischer-tropsch catalysts with high activity and selectivity for olefins were produced using mordenite type sio2/al2o3= 12, 20, 28, 62 zeolite supported iron carbonyl compounds and were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction. the adsorptionof volatile fe(co)5 on the support surface was carried out under vacuum at room temperature. reduction les were monitored by vibrating sample magnetometer (vsm). the magnetic saturation time was observed to increase with increasing the al2o3 content of catalyst system indicating an increasing interaction between iron and alumina. the activity and selectivity of different iron deposited mordenite sample were investigated during fischer-tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons with h2/co=3 in the temperature range of 400-500 °c using a microreactor system. the results correlated with the acidic properties of surface and/or with metallic state of active iron particles of the catalyst.

Introduction The preparation and characterization of nanophase materials has received considerable attention in recent years, given their potential for improved performance as catalysts, high-strength materials, and semiconductor devices. For example, a recent breakthrough by Sun et al. (1) in the synthesis of highly-dispersed, silica-supported iron-platinum (FePt) bimetallic nanoclusters of co...

full textFischer Tropsch Synthesis: A Comparison of Iron and Cobalt Catalysts
Following WW II, it appeared that there would be a severe shortage of crude oil so that U.S. organizations initiated work on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS). Over a ten year period, the U.S. Bureau of Mines was budgeted $85 million for work on direct and indirect coal liquefaction. These funds would represent more than a billion dollars in today’s marketplace. A large (75 bbl/day) FTS pilot pla...
full textSynthesis of Liquid Hydrocarbons by Fischer–tropsch Process Using Industrial Iron Catalyst
Fischer–Tropsch process (F-T) is an efficient technology to synthesize liquid transportation fuel as well as other valuable chemicals. This process is associated with hydrogenation of carbon monoxide gas in presence of transition metal catalyst to valuable liquid transportation fuels and chemicals. F-T reaction is essentially a catalytic process, and most widely used catalysts are either iron o...

A cobalt catalyst (25%Co/γ-Al2O3, prepared by slurry phase impregnation) was used in a fixed bed reactor under a pressure/density tuned supercritical fluid mixture of n-pentane/nhexane. By using an inert gas as a balancing gas to maintain a constant pressure, the density of the supercritical fluid could be tuned near the supercritical point while maintaining constant space velocity within the r...
